London mayor Sadiq Khan is under investigation after he accepted six free concert tickets to see US pop star Taylor Swift.
The mayor – who recently received a knighthood in the UK’s New Year honours list – is now facing a probe for accepting the tickets to see Swift perform at London’s Wembley Stadium in front of a sold-out crowd as part of her Eras tour last summer.
The investigation has been prompted after Conservative London Assembly member Susan Hall lodged a formal complaint against Sir Sadiq, but a majority of the allegations levelled against him have been dropped.
Sir Sadiq previously said in reports he received the tickets – to the value of £194 (A$380) each – from the Football Association but these comments were later quickly quashed and officials said the tickets were worth £500 ($A980) each and they had been paid for by a British company LS Events.
A Greater London Authority spokesman said in a statement: “The monitoring officer has reviewed the complaint against the mayor and will not be investigating three of the four allegations.
“An investigation will now take place to establish if the mayor exercised an appropriate level of caution in deciding to accept the tickets”.
The existing allegations that will be investigated relate to the declaration of the tickets being late, inaccurate and reports claim LS Events, who provided the tickets, had previously worked with City Hall.
In a social media post on X last year, Sir Sadiq uploaded a video welcoming Swift to London and said: “It’s been a long time coming but the Eras Tour has finally arrived in London.
“With more nights here than any other city – a huge welcome to Taylor Swift and Swifties from around the world.
“London, are you ready for it?”

A spokesman for the mayor said in a statement: “Any gift accepted by the mayor is declared openly and transparently.
“In this case there was an administrative error which was corrected.
“The mayor has no involvement in the procurement process for GLA events, nor in the tendering of these contracts.
“The mayor’s office will continue to ensure all the right processes are followed, and looks forward to explaining the approach that was taken in this instance.”
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and his wife Victoria, Lady Starmer, also attended one of Swift’s concerts while she performed in London last year.

Sir Keir came under fire in 2024 after he was found to have accepted more than £100,000 ($196,100) worth of gifts of freebies and hospitality since 2019.
There were concerns his acceptances of the gifts was a conflict of interest.
