ALEXANDER was making his first attempt to perform a simple forward roll in his school gym class.
But the primary school student ended up breaking his back when he went into it awkwardly.
The teacher in charge of the PE class has reportedly been fired.
CCTV footage from the PE class, recorded in a school gym in Moscow, Russia, reveals the sickening moment Alexander was injured.
He approaches the gym mat, directed by his teacher, and launches on to the mat.
As his shocked classmates watch, the dive ends awkwardly and he crashes on to his head.
The flip ends with him flat on his back, and unable to move.
The teacher quickly sinks to her knees beside him, as his schoolmates gather around to help.
Transported to hospital, Alexander was told by doctors he has a compression fracture in his spine, but they managed to save the damaged nerve endings.
He faces a couple of months in hospital, lying flat, as the injuries heal but he is expected to make a full recovery.
The teacher was sacked from her job for failing to adequately supervise the exercise class. But her colleagues are unhappy with the dismissal, saying the video shows the boy did not follow her instructions.
