British construction worker Damien Murray is among the millions of people who have signed a petition demanding another UK election, accusing the prime minister of having “no one’s interests at heart”.
A petition calling for another UK general election just four months after the Labour Party won office has attracted more than 2.67 million signatures amid widespread disgruntlement with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his government.
Speaking in London, Mr Murray was among many voters who said he was fed up with the government and Sir Keir.
“He’s … got no-one’s interests at heart, only himself, (he) don’t care about the general public, he don’t care about the working class, (he’s) more interested in immigration than his own people,” he said.
The petition was established by disenchanted West Midlands’ publican Michael Westwood last week over concerns the government had broken numerous promises.
It has drawn significant attention in Britain but despite this Sir Keir has ruled out calling another election.
The petition has also been endorsed by billionaire Elon Musk who posted on his social media platform X, “The people of Britain have had enough of a tyrannical police state”.
The petition had quickly attracted 2.67 million signatures resulting in debate as to whether the government should serve its full five-year term.
There has been growing backlash over Labour’s budget including increases to taxes, most notably a controversial inheritance tax to hit farmers and ongoing cost of living concerns.

Petitions on the UK Parliament’s website can be established by any member of the public and a valid email address and postcode is required by participants before prompting them for an online signature.
The number of signatures for the petition has surpassed the threshold of 10,000 which is required to guarantee a response by the government, while a petition that attracts more than 100,000 signatures will be considered for debate in the UK parliament.
The Labour government has come under immense criticism in its first few months of power and Sir Keir was interviewed on British TV network ITV’s program Good Morning Britain this week and asked if he felt under pressure.
“Look I remind myself that very many people didn’t vote Labour at the last election, I’m not that surprised that many of them want a re-run,” he said.
“What I focus on is the decisions that I have to make every day.”
