Meghan Markle’s eight-episode show With Love, Meghan has just premiered on Netflix and features a number of her famous friends.
In the second episode, actor and producer Mindy Kaling says to Meghan, “People wouldn’t believe that Meghan Markle ate at Jack in the Box.”
To which the Duchess replies cheekily, “It’s so funny too that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I’m Sussex now.”
Meghan has admitted to making “mistakes” over the tumultuous launch of her As Ever brand after the label’s last-minute name and a string of trademark dramas.
Speaking to People in a rare interview, the Duchess of Sussex said the experience was “a learning curve”.
“I appreciate everyone who gave me the grace to make mistakes and figure it out and also to be forgiving with myself through that,” she said.
Meghan abandoned her label’s previous name, American Riviera Orchard, afer trademark issues.
She changed the name to As Ever, which has also been plagued by issues, including accusations that the logo was strikingly similar to a coat of arms for the village of Porreres in Majorca.
“There are tons of twists and turns — even with the name,” Meghan said in the People interview. “I was figuring it out in real time.”
Reflecting on her whirlwind journey into royal life, Meghan, whose new Netflix show With Love, Meghan launches this week, said she would do it all again for the love of Prince Harry.
“Well, I loved (previous lifestlye blog) The Tig, but I certainly love my husband more,” Meghan told People.
“So that was a choice I made at the time, and I wouldn’t change that for a second.”
The Californian-based royal revealed she is excited for the revamp of Suits LA – which airs on Channel 7 in Australia.
“It’s a time capsule for me — I still have the pencil skirt from the first episode. That’s the one thing I kept,” Meghan said.
“I love that it (Suits) gets a new breath of fresh air.”
Despite dramatically announcing their departure as working royals in 2020, Meghan and Harry have continued to use their titles the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to the chagrin of some monarchists.
Meghan defended her continued use of the title, explaining why it was special to them.
“It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognised how meaningful that would be to me until we had children,” Meghan said.
“I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me.
“(The Sussex name) is part of our love story.”
Meghan also reflected on her return to social media after a five-year hiatus.
“When I was last on social media, Boomerang was the thing,” she said referring to an Instagram effect. “Instagram Stories didn’t even exist. So it’s been a minute.”
However, she clarified that despite her burgeoning following – which has already exceeded two million people despite only returning to the platform in January – she does not see herself as an influencer.
“I see myself as an entrepreneur and a female founder,” Meghan said. “And if the brand ends up influential, then that’s great.”
Despite her love of cooking, Meghan also let slip she too enjoys a cheeky takeaway – although she draws the line at eating from the pizza box.
“But even when I get takeout, I will try to plate it beautifully,” Meghan said.
She also gave her fans an insight into her family’s favourite foods.
“My husband and Archie both love fried eggs,” she said. “There’s a lot of bacon around here. And then sometimes you don’t have time for all that, and you just put a frozen waffle in the toaster and call it a day. And there’s no shame in that either.”
While neither Archie, five, nor Lilibet, three, appear in the Netflix show at all and Harry does so only fleetingly, Meghan said they were often on set.
