US President Donald Trump spoke about his plan to build “the most powerful military of the future”, as well as a letter he received from the Ukrainian leader in his address to Congress.
US President Donald Trump has vowed to lead his country to a new golden age in a vigorous address to Congress in which he outlined plans to end the Ukraine war, take control of Greenland and the Panama Canal, build a “Golden Dome” and put an end to “woke” culture.
In a boisterous and partisan 100-minute address, the President openly mocked his opponents, personally thanked Elon Musk for his hard work, asked the country to bear with him on tariffs and announced the arrest of a “top terrorist” allegedly involved in the Kabul airport bombing.
Just moments into the speech, Democratic representative Al Green was ejected from the chamber after shouting and waving his cane at the President. Other Democrats heckled and jeered, holding up signs reading “false”, “Musk steals” and “save Medicaid”.
Mr Trump received a hero’s welcome to the chamber where Republicans hold the House and the Senate.
The President spent much of his speech recounting his achievements since returning to the White House seven weeks ago, including slashing billions in waste through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), stamping out DEI practices and a crackdown on immigration.
“The media and our friends in the Democrat Party kept saying we needed new legislation, we must have legislation to secure the border, but it turned out that all we really needed was a new president,” he said.
In raucous scenes, Mr Trump continually paused his speech when Republicans began chants of “USA” and “fight” in enthusiastic approval.
The President also hinted at steps toward a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia.
