Miraculous survival as Russian tank rolls over an old man

Astonishing videos show Ukrainians standing up to Russian tanks, and walk away alive, as civilians answered the call to take up arms and slow the invaders.

Remarkable videos are emerging from Ukraine showing lone civilians squaring off against Russian tanks and walking away alive.

One series of videos posted to Twitter showed a tank rolling over a civilian car and ripping the roof straight off as gunfire can be heard in the distance.

Follow-up footage shows bystanders running to the aid of the driver, looking shocked and confused but, remarkably, alive. The extent of his injuries were unknown.

Other observers said the tank was a Russian 9K35 Strela-10 mobile short-range surface-to-air missile system that had been separated from its unit.

Multiple videos showed the tank speeding through the Obolon district in the north of Kyiv in an apparent search for its comrades.

Local resident Viktor Berbash, 58, said he ran out to his balcony after he heard a shooting on Friday morning he saw the collision.

“I saw an armoured vehicle and there was automatic fire. And here this car, with probably an anti-aircraft gun on it, was already here,” he said, according to The Sun.

He added: “Two armoured vehicles were driving along the road, and the second of them deliberately drove into the oncoming lane.

“It was not by chance, it was for fun, there was no need for this. And it just ran into this car. Stopped, reversed over it again and drove on.”

Elsewhere, a lone Ukrainian was filmed standing defiantly in front of a column of Russian “Z” armoured vehicles.

As one tried to swerve out of the way, it evoked images of the Tiananmen Square Massacre’s “Tank Man,” who laid his life down in front of Chinese forces in June 1989.

The Ukraine video is believed to have been filmed in the south of the country near Crimea.

Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky called on all Ukrainians to take up arms, leading to a slower than expected blitz of the country from Russian invaders.

He joined the civilian defenders of Kyiv on the second day of the war, posting an Instagram video saying he was remaining in the capital city with the rest of the command and control apparatuses.
