Israel has kept up its bombing campaign with three massive explosions killing at least six people at a medical centre in central Beirut around midnight on Wednesday local time (7am AEST).
The targeted building was in central Beirut’s Bachoura neighborhood close to the parliament, making it the nearest Israeli strike to have come to Lebanon’s seat of government.
One local news outlet posted a video of explosions lighting up the sky as blasts were loud enough to be heard 24km away in the mountains above the city.
The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health said late on Wednesday that Israel’s attacks in Lebanon had killed 46 people and injured 85 in the previous 24 hours, including a US permanent resident.
Meanwhile, a Royal Australian Air Force flight has landed on Cyprus as part of the Australia’s evacuation plan for citizens in Lebanon.
It comes as at least eight Israeli soldiers have been confirmed killed and another 47 wounded in the fighting as Hezbollah continued to barrage Israel with about 100 rockets fired in about an hour.
As ground operations intensified after the unprecedented aerial bombardment and terror attack, US President Joe Biden warned Israel against targeting Iran’s nuclear program in retaliation.
