German police have unearthed an email account sensationally linking prime suspect Christian Brueckner to the abduction of Madeleine McCann, it has been claimed.

Senior detective Titus Stampa reportedly told a German court that investigators had sourced emails from a 2007 Hotmail account used by Brueckner allegedly tying him directly to the case.

The revelation is the first time an official working on the investigation purports to have confirmation connecting the convicted pedophile to the case of the three-year-old, who disappeared from her bed in a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Lagos, Portugal, on the night of May 3 2007.

According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Mr Stampa said he was not authorised to share details of the evidence because it “related to the killing” of the British child.

Brueckner, 47, is on trial in Germany for alleged sex crimes that relate to different cases.

He denies involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance, and is defending the current charges before the court.

Mr Stampa referred to the Hotmail account at Braunschweig regional court in Germany as the “murder account” but did not confirm if the emails contained pictures or videos.

According to The Mirror, the officer told the court police discovered a separate account he used to swap child abuse videos with pedophiles.

The court heard that Brueckner deleted every email in that Hotmail account from the first six months of 2007, when Madeleine vanished.

The prolific burglar who has been previously convicted of sex crimes against young girls and women, was first named in connection with the unsolved mystery the summer she went missing from the holiday apartment, and was officially named as a suspect in 2020.

Prosecutors devoted three years to researching Brueckner before declaring him a suspect.

Mr Stampa revealed details of Brueckner’s email accounts as he gave evidence while on trial for unrelated alleged sex crimes at Braunschweig regional court, according to The Mirror.

He reportedly told the court that he found images on a secret email address used by the German prosecutors were granted access after an appeal to Microsoft in 2019.

The court has heard how Brueckner allegedly tried to delete “many emails” showing videoed abuse of children as young as “three or four”.

Brueckner was born in Germany in 1976 and moved to Portugal in his late teens.

It is believed he lived there between 1995 and 2007 working in the food industry.

Brueckner gave his lawyer a fist bump as he appeared at Braunschweig regional court on Wednesday, local time,

Wearing a grey linen jacket, the 47-year-old shook hands with other members of his legal team.

Brueckner’s trial is due to last until October. He is currently serving a seven-year jail term for raping a pensioner in Praia da Luz in 2005.
