Six teenagers have been rushed to hospital following a horror drive-by shooting in the US.

The attack took place at Nome Park in Aurora, Colorado on Monday US time, with the victims ranging in age from 14 to 18.

The injured teens were all students of Central High School, located near the park.

Speaking at a press conference shortly after the shooting, Aurora Police Chief Vanessa Wilson said multiple suspects had fled the scene on foot and by car, with gang units investigating.

Thankfully, while all six were seriously wounded, their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

“This is very concerning right now,” Chief Wilson said.

“I have one child in emergency surgery. I want to thank the school resources officers that were first on scene.

“They applied life saving measures in the form of a tourniquet for the individual that’s in surgery now.”

She said it was “very concerning” not only for the city of Aurora, but the nation as a whole.

“I think we’re seeing it’s a public health crisis, really, when we think about gun violence,” she said.

“When I got the call, my heart dropped … I think, enough is enough.”

FOX31 reported a witness hearing up to 50 gunshots as children ran for cover.

Another witness also described the terrifying attack to KDVR-TV.

“As soon as I heard the shots, I hit the deck,” he told the network.

“There’s always shootings over here on this block.”

In a statement, Aurora mayor Mike Coffman condemned the violence.

“A shooting today in a park by Aurora Central High School has left six young people hospitalised. My prayers are with the injured and their families,” the statement begins.

“As the facts surrounding this incident become known, I look forward to hearing from our Chief of Police and from our District Attorney about what actions will be taken to apprehend and prosecute, to the fullest extent of the law, those responsible for this incident.

“The most important function of government is the protection of its people and I strongly believe that public safety must always be the top priority for this city.”

The latest shooting comes less than nine months after 10 people were killed in a mass shooting in a supermarket at nearby Boulder, Colorado.
