Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron, soaks in adulation in rare appearance at political rally

The usually media-shy Barron Trump has made a major appearance amid rumours he is preparing for a more active political role.

Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron, has made a rare appearance at one of his father’s political rallies, where an adoring crowd gave him a standing ovation.

Barron, 18, has mostly avoided the spotlight since Mr Trump became a politician, setting him apart from his older siblings.

The former president’s eldest daughter, Ivanka, worked as a White House adviser during his first term, along with her husband Jared Kushner. Mr Trump’s sons Donald Jr and Eric make frequent appearances on television, and Don Jr in particular has a significant fan base on social media.

Youngest daughter Tiffany is less prominent in the public eye, but did join all the other Trump children (Barron aside) in speaking at the Republican National Convention in 2020.

Barron, who recently graduated from high school, was in attendance for the rally at his father’s Doral Golf Club in Miami, Florida on Tuesday evening, US time.

He waved at the crowd and offered a fist pump as it responded with warm applause.

“Welcome to the scene, Barron,” Mr Trump said, before jokingly suggesting that Barron “might be more popular than Don and Eric”, both of whom were also there.

“He’s now going to college. Got into every college he wanted to. And he’s a very good guy, I tell you. He is my boy. He is my boy. They’re all my boys, right?” he said.

“He’s a very special guy. Barron Trump.

“You’re very popular. He might be more popular than Don and Eric. Hey Don, we’ve got to talk about that.

“He had such a nice, easy life. Now it’s a little bit changed.”

Barron, who stands at an imposing six-foot-seven, is rumoured to be preparing for a more active role in politics.

Social media users reacting to his rally appearance certainly thought so – though they were, to put it politely, deeply split on whether a political career for Barron would be a good idea.

Melania headlines major fundraiser

Mr Trump’s wife, Melania, has also been a rare presence in public of late. She did not attend his criminal trial in New York, did not accompany him to the first presidential debate against Joe Biden, and is not tagging along for his rallies.

Mrs Trump did, however, do her part for the campaign on Monday night, hosting a fundraiser at Trump Tower which reportedly raked in $US1.4 million ($2.1 million). The event was held for the Log Cabin Republicans, a group affiliated with LGBTQ conservatives.

“This was an amazingly spectacular event for Log Cabin Republicans and the future of the Republican Party,” the group said afterwards.

“We cannot be thankful enough to Melania Trump for her leadership and support of equality for all. This Republican Party is one for all Americans.”

“Mrs Trump has a long history of supporting efforts around unity and inclusion,” the Log Cabin Republicans’ President, Charles Moran, told News Nation.

“We are working to build a more inclusive Republican Party, also to let LGBT people know they have a home in the conservative movement.

“Mrs Trump is about unity. She came to this country from another one, she speaks multiple languages, is a self-made woman, had a successful career before she married Donald Trump. She understands the importance of being judged on your character and your ability to contribute to society.”
