Donald Trump rushed off stage after shooting at rally

Donald Trump was only minutes into his rally speech in Pennsylvania when gunshots rang out, causing widespread panic.

The former US president was talking about immigration and criticising the Biden government to his crowd of loyal supporters at the Butler Farm showgrounds just before chaos hit.

Trump was pointing toward a screen displaying information that his campaign had prepared about border security when gunshots were heard.

Around 130 metres from where Trump was standing at his lectern, a gunman had fired a rifle from the rooftop of the AGR International building, a manufacturing plant next to the showgrounds but outside the security perimeter.

Trump raised his hand to his right ear as the shots rang out then quickly crouched behind his lectern as Secret Service agents — heard shouting “get down!” — rushed to his aide.

Stunned supporters seated behind Trump’s lectern crouched down in fear while terrified screams rang out as additional shots were fired.

After about a minute, a Secret Service agent yelled that the shooter was down and a shellshocked Trump was helped to stand to his feet.

As he stood up, a clearly shaken Trump could be heard telling the agents, “Let me get my shoes.”

“I got you sir, I got you,” one agent told the former US president amid the chaos.

Surrounded by agents who from a barrier around the 45th US President, Trump quickly regained his composure.

In images that will go down in history, he defiantly raised his fist in the air toward the crowd members who responded with a roar.

He appeared to mouth the words, “fight, fight” while the crowd began chanting “USA, USA, USA”.

As he was ushered off the stage, blood could be seen on his right ear and streaming down his face.

Before getting in his black SUV, he once again turned to the crowd and raised his fist in a sign of defiance.
