The debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump involved a bunch of dubious claims, flying in from both sides.

Welcome to our live coverage of the American presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

This might end up being the only debate between the pair before the election on November 5, though Ms Harris’s campaign has already called for at least one more.

We already witnessed one previous debate, of course, back in late June, when Mr Trump’s opponent was still Joe Biden.

Mr Biden’s performance was so halting, and so illustrative of concerns about his age, that it became the catalyst for his own party to force him out of the race.

Ms Harris, the Vice President, eventually took his place as the Democratic presidential nominee, and she has markedly improved her party’s chances of retaining the White House, swiftly eroding Mr Trump’s lead in the polls.

But the election is still very, very close.
