A 23-year-old Chicago man is behind bars after he stole an ambulance, took it on a joy ride and then crashed it — and the whole thing was captured on video.

Michael Buckner had been a hospital patient and while he was being transported from one medical facility to another he broke out of his restraints and stole the ambulance.

But his getaway was short-lived. He lost control on a highway and rolled it, and the dashboard camera recorded the entire ordeal, Fox reported,

He managed to climb out and a passer-by stopped to assist and offered him a ride to hospital. But the passer-by soon became concerned for his safety and pulled over to call police.

While he was on the phone to them he left the vehicle and Buckner climbed into the drivers seat and took off.

He didn’t go far before he was stopped by police and taken into custody without incident on charges of taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent.

While he was in jail, Buckner appeared to have a medical crisis and was taken to a local hospital where he became violent and attacked the officers standing guard.

Three officers were injured with injuries including bite marks and lacerations. Buckner also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment.

He is now being held at a secure medical facility.
