‘Changes coming’: Alec Baldwin cryptic after Rust charge shock

New Mexico prosecutors revealed four ‘possible defendants’ face charges in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, including the ‘well-known movie actor’.

FBI forensic report concludes Alec Baldwin pulled trigger on Rust set

Alec Baldwin is one of four ‘possible defendants’ facing charges over the death of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, according to New Mexico prosecutors.

Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said she was “ready” to file criminal charges almost a year after the fatal shooting in her application for emergency funds to prosecute “up to four separate jury trials”.

Baldwin posted a cryptic Instagram message on Monday local time after the birth of his latest child, saying his family was his “reason for living”.

“My heart has been broken a thousand times this past year. And things in my life May never be the same,” he said.

“Lots of changes coming.”

The potential charges against the actor were indicated in an application to the New Mexico Board of Finance for USD $317,000 (AUD $490,000) to prosecute four defendants, just days before Baldwin listed his Hamptons home for USD $29 million (AUD $45 million).

“One of the possible defendants is well-known movie actor Alec Baldwin,” Carmack-Altwies said in her request, obtained by The New Mexican.

While not identifying which charges could be brought, Ms Carmack-Altwies added that her office is “certainly looking at all the homicide statutes and any gun statutes under New Mexico criminal code”.

The emergency request for funds, about half the USD $635,000 (AUD $1 million) her office estimated is needed, could not wait for the state’s Legislature next year because the case “needs to be prosecuted immediately”, Ms Carmack-Altwies said in the application.

“The reason for our emergency request is because we expect to receive the final report soon,” she added, referring to the impending Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office report.

The report is expected after one of the “final pieces of evidence” her office was waiting on, Baldwin’s mobile phone was handed to law enforcement.

Baldwin was filming Rust in October 2021 when his Ms Hutching was shot and killed and director, Joel Souza, was injured.

The actor has maintained that he did not pull the trigger and that the firearm discharged accidentally. A recent FBI forensic report found the weapon could not have been fired unless its trigger was pulled.

The film’s armourer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, has been named in several lawsuits, including a wrongful death claim filed by Hutchins’ family.
