An Australian couple accused of running a Bali brothel have posted a $1 million bail bond to get out of jail.

Michael and Lynley Le Grand spent almost three months on remand after they were picked up because of their ownership of the Pink Palace Spa, which was accused of offering sexual services.

They were arrested as part of a wider operation that also snared the ex-wife of former AFL player Ricky Olarenshaw who was accused of running a separate brothel.

Multiple sources have confirmed that the Le Grands were released from Denpasar Police Station holding cells this week.

It is claimed that they were released on compassionate grounds because of a Mr Le Grand’s pancreatic cancer.

Sources claim they posted a $1 million bond for their release but it was not clear if they would be forced to stay in Bali or travel to Australia.

Bali police had paraded the couple in front of the media in orange jumpsuits in October and threatened to charge them under Indonesia’s anti-pornography laws, which carried up to 12 years’ jail.

Lingerie, condoms and massage oil were allegedly seized as part of the Bali police raids on the Pink Palace, which police claimed was operating as a brothel.

The couple have three children who went back to Australia when their parents were arrested.

“The bail was $1 million,” a source said.

“They were staying in a cell with 30 people and only one toilet. Lynley was released as a carer.”

Olarenshaw’s estranged partner Saranitha, who was linked to the Flame Spa, remains behind bars.

It was understood that Olarenshaw has been trying to help his former wife with her legal battle.

Sources claim the couple was now as much as $3 million in debt but other business partners may have to rename or sell the hospitality venues.

The Pink Palace Spa only opened this year but immediately attracted attention for its advertising, which included massages that involved “personal stimulation with a well trained female therapist” for $140.

Other services included “hand relief” for $100.

The Le Grands financial difficulties came after they had sold a $3.6 million home in Sandringham, an up-market bayside suburb in Melbourne.

One of Mr Le Grand’s children did not return calls.
