A woman suited up in full beekeeper garb to unleash a swarm of angry bees on police as they tried to evict a longtime, according to cops who arrested her.
Beekeeper Rorie Woods, 55, allegedly turned her hives into weapons outside the $US1.5 million ($A2.4 million) home of Alton King in Springfield, Massachusetts, where demonstrators had gathered to protest his eviction on October 12, according to the New York Post.
The bee lady caused a buzz when she allegedly hopped out of a trailer attached to an SUV and began shaking several hives – causing hundreds of the insects to swarm and sting police officers, police said.
Several cops were allergic and one had to “retreat” after she was stung in the face, according to sheriff Daniel Soto.
The honeycomb-hauling hothead then slipped on a beekeeping suit and rolled three more hives in front of the house to block cops from serving Mr King eviction papers, according to police.
“Officers at this time attempted to stop Woods but were attacked by the bees,” a report from Soto states. “Deputy Joslyn was stung in the face and had to retreat.”
When police tried to arrest Ms Woods, she allegedly resisted – and was tackled to the ground and handcuffed, police said.
As she was hauled away by cops, police told Ms Woods that some officers were having bad reactions to the bee stings.
“Oh, you’re allergic? Good,” she allegedly snapped.
Protesters on the normally sleepy cul-de-sac demanded she be set free – but cops said the ambush is not gonna fly.
“This woman, who travelled here, put lives in danger as several of the staff on scene are allergic to bees,” said Hampden County Sheriff spokesman Nicholas Cocchi.
“We had one staff member go to the hospital, and, luckily, he was all right or she could be facing manslaughter charges.”
Ms Woods was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon along with disorderly conduct. She pleaded not guilty.
Mr King was in court at the time of the un-bee-liveable arrest, trying to delay his eviction, the Post reported.
In 2018, Mr King was served a 72-hour notice to vacate the home but a court battle broke out. At the time, he owned $1.2 million on the property.
Ms Woods battled her own eviction notice in recent years. In 2018, she was among 21 people whose evictions were appealed by the Massachusetts Alliance Against Predatory Lending, which offers legal services to homeowners.
Ms Woods, a veteran beekeeper who tends to the bugs in Northampton, couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
Her connection to Mr King wasn’t clear.
