A WOMAN has been admitted to the intensive care unit at St Vincent’s Hospital following complications during a breast augmentation at a clinic today in Bondi Junction.

The Cosmetic Institute has reportedly confirmed the woman, in her early 20s, was rushed to hospital by paramedics at about 12.30pm.

It comes nine months after another woman was rushed to hospital suffering a cardiac arrest following the same procedure at the chain’s Parramatta clinic.

“Our surgeon and specialist anaesthetist were able to immediately stabilise her on site and as a precautionary matter we arranged an ambulance transfer to a local hospital for further treatment and observation, where she is now recovering,” a statement from The Cosmetic Institute, sent to Sydney media, said.

“Given the patient confidentiality agreements we have with all our patients, we are unable to provide more details other than to say she is safe and stable.

“No further medical information can be provided at this stage nor can we speculate on what may have been the cause.

“We will be maintaining close contact with the patient.”

A spokesman for St Vincent’s Hospital said the woman was “in a stable condition in intensive care.”

It is the same cosmetic surgery chain where Amy Rickhuss suffered a cardiac arrest during a breast augmentation in January.

Ms Rickhuss was rushed to Westmead Hospital for emergency treatment following a procedure at the Parramatta clinic.

Her case is now reportedly being investigated by the Health Care Complaints Commission.

On their website The Cosmetic Institute describes themselves as “Australia’s largest and most trusted cosmetic surgery clinic.”

The chain has clinics in Bondi Junction, Parramatta and Southport in Queensland.
