A teenager who died in an industrial accident at a sandblasting business in Perth has been named as Hamiora Sharland.
The 16-year-old suffered critical injuries at TLC Surface Treatment factory on Railway Parade, in Welshpool, just after 8am on Thursday.
Hamiora was understood to have been preparing a steel beam for sandblasting when he was crushed, according to The West.
He was taken to Royal Perth Hospital but died a short time later.
The paper reported that Hamiora was working as a trainee or apprentice.
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner while WorkSafe said it would investigate the incident.
Speaking to The West one friend said Hamiora was “always smiling” and described him as a “people person”.
MP for Swan Zaneta Mascarenhas said: “Everyone deserves to go home safe from work, especially a child.
“RIP Hamiora Sharland. Only 16 years old.”
TLC Surface Treatment Directors Michael Miller and Matthew Clarke said their “heartfelt thoughts and sympathy” were with the boy’s family.
“We offer them our fullest support at this worst of times,” the statement read.
“Counselling support has been offered to all our employees and contractors.”
Hamiora’s death is the sixth workplace-related death in less than a month.
Just three days before the boy’s death, father-of-two Kieren McDowall died at Mineral Resources’ Onslow Iron project in WA’s Pilbara region.
A 62-year-old crane operator also died earlier in Juna at a PACT construction site in Applecross after falling off a ladder.
On the same day, a technician was killed while working at Woodside’s North Rankin Complex in the Pilbara
Police are now preparing a report for the Coroner, with forensic officers spotted at the worksite after the incident.
WorkSafe and the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety are also investigating the incident.
