An alleged killer has pleaded not guilty on grounds of insanity over the death of a young woman who was brutally murdered on a suburban street.

Man arrested over alleged stabbing death

An alleged killer has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity for the murder of a 22-year old woman who was brutally killed on a suburban street.

Clarence Jalloh, 30, is accused of stabbing Mauwa Kizenga to death on Walderton Ave in Balga in Perth’s north shortly after 8pm on March 16.

Ms Kizenga, also known as Melanie to her friends, was visiting family and walking with her cousin on the suburban street when Mr Jalloh allegedly attacked her with a knife.

A security camera captured Ms Kizenga and her cousin walking along a footpath just after 8.10pm on the Saturday night, moments before the alleged attack took place 100m from Balga Primary School.

Emergency services performed first aid on Ms Kizenga at the scene before she was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital.

Her injuries were so severe, she did not survive.

Mr Jalloh was charged with her murder and has been in custody since his arrest.

He appeared in the Stirling Gardens Magistrate Court via video link from prison where he entered his plea on Wednesday.

He was remanded in custody to appear in court again on February 19.
