A false fire alarm “flooded” a kebab store, bringing shoppers to a standstill at Pacific Fair on Friday.
Fire and emergency services arrived at the busy Broadbeach shopping centre just before 1pm to investigate reports of smoke near the food court.
Gold Coast resident Mike Ford said fire alarms had been set off and he could see water “flooding” the back of Memet’s kebab store.
“It’s flooding, it’s pouring out the back, there is a lot of water going out the back,” Mr Ford said.
Shoppers could be seen gathering outside the shop, watching the water blanket the back of the kebab stall.
“People in the store all had to leave,” Mr Ford said.
A spokeswoman for Pacific Fair said the centre’s sprinklers were triggered by a fire alarm, but there was no ongoing impact to shoppers.
“The sprinkler was triggered by cooking smoke — there was minor water damage and no injuries,” a spokeswoman said.
