DISGRACED Wagga Wagga MP Daryl Maguire had links to the Chinese business figures who played in key role in the downfall of Joel Fitzgibbon, The Daily Telegraph can reveal.

It’s been a long journey from Maguire’s entrance into politics nearly 20 years ago, when he made a point of talking about his “humble beginnings” growing up in the bush.

Last week, under the intense spotlight of an ICAC grilling, he invoked his country origins again.

The 59-year-old government backbencher is in the middle of a political scandal for using his parliamentary position to tout for kickbacks from mega wealthy Chinese property developers.

All week both Coalition, independent and ALP politicians have mounted pressure on Maguire to resign from his safe seat, with the National Party hoping to field a candidate.

A minister in the Berejiklian Government told The Daily Telegraph Maguire had sent him an explicit text message after a trip to China that referred to the size of his genitalia.

“I couldn’t believe it,” the MP said.
