‘Won’t get a beer or parma here’: Publican bans former premier Dan Andrews after video goes viral

The man who told Victorians to “get on the beers” as we emerged from yet another Covid lockdown will find it hard to have a frothie at a Murray River pub, after a ban on Dan was declared.

The man who told Victorians to “get on the beers” as we emerged from yet another Covid lockdown will find it difficult to have a frothie at one Murray River pub.

A viral video claiming Dan Andrews has bought a riverfront property in rural Bundalong has sent locals into a meltdown, with the town’s publican warning the former premier won’t ever be welcomed.

Bundalong Tavern publican Brett Butler told the Herald Sun that Mr Andrews would not be let in the doors of his hotel if he turned up, as rumours swirled he could become a local in the Murray River town in the future.

“He won’t get a cold beer or parma here,” Mr Butler said.

“He’s not welcome. I’m standing up for every small business in Victoria and I’d call on all of them to ban Dan.”

It’s understood Mr Andrews does not in fact own a property in the town, as rumoured.

But Mr Butler said Bundalong, on the Murray River east of Yarrawonga, would be a “thorn in the side” of Mr Andrews if he ever tried to settle in the region, because of his harsh Covid lockdowns.

In a video posted to social media that went viral this week, Adam Scholte claimed Mr Andrews had a builder come to a block he had bought in Bundalong, with a view to building a house and had been booted out of the pub.

He claimed the builder told Mr Andrews: “You can piss off, I’m not building for you.”

Mr Scholte also claimed in the video the builder had added he would warn “every builder, plumber, plasterer, bricklayer, every person involved in the building trade within 200km from the town” to stay away from Mr Andrews.

He claimed also Mr Andrews was told to leave the Bundalong Tavern and “people inside (the pub) were saying you may as well leave the whole town as well”, a claim the publican, Mr Butler, supported.

But property searches by the Herald Sun for Mr Andrews and his wife come up blank in terms of any Bundalong holdings held in their names although legal structures such as trusts allow the ownership of real estate to be concealed from public view.

And it’s understood all claims re the pub visit and block purchase have been refuted by Mr Andrews, who grew up in Wangaratta, not far from Bundalong.

The picturesque Murray River town of Bundalong is popular with tourists, with the tavern on the Murray Valley Highway spruiking its meals, drinks, accommodation and ambience.

“Enjoy a fantastic meal with your family, a casual drink with friends, a weekend away staying in our luxurious accommodation, or somewhere to party until late,” it says on its website.

The pub is the home of the Bundy Burger Challenge, which it warns is “not for the faint hearted or small stomached”, with a massive 3.5kg burger to be eaten in 30 minutes in order to win.

It also has a parma night, at which Mr Andrews is definitely not welcome.
