One new coronavirus case has been detected in Melbourne’s hotel quarantine, the first case since March 29.
The positive case has been confirmed as an international passenger who arrived in Melbourne from Doha on Thursday.
COVID-19 Quarantine Victoria, which runs the hotel quarantine program, said the man was aged in his 40s and was transferred to a health hotel, which houses coronavirus patients, on Friday night.
The state’s health department said there were no locally acquired cases of coronavirus since Friday.
A total of 4810 vaccine doses were administered on Friday with 13,099 test results received.
The state’s troubled hotel quarantine program resumed on Thursday after it was paused in mid-February when a coronavirus outbreak at the Holiday Inn at Melbourne Airport sparked a snap, five-day lockdown.
Under the revamp, six hotels will be included in the program including the ill-fated Holiday Inn.
Other hotels include the InterContinental on Collins St, Novotel Ibis at Melbourne Central, the Holiday Inn at Flinders Lane, the Element Melbourne Richmond on Swan Street and the Pan Pacific at the Convention Centre.
“CQV has strict IPC processes and procedures, daily staff testing and workers are N95 mask fit-test and trained and well prepared to manage positive cases,” CQV said.
The new-look hotel quarantine scheme will ban floor guards from using their mobile phones or reading books – as well as doubling the testing rates for hotel guests during their 14-day stay, and feature an online QR system.
Victoria has not recorded a case of community transmission in 43 days.
