Dramatic air wing footage has captured the moment two teens were arrested after an alleged carjacking in Hillside.

One of the teens, allegedly wielding a machete, has been charged after a group of youths – some of whom remain on the run – allegedly launched a violent attack on a man in Melbourne’s northwest.

Police were called after the group allegedly attacked a 20-year-old man after he had parked his car on Royal Crescent in Hillside around 1.30am Wednesday.

Police said the teens, who were occupants in a stolen Toyota, chased and assaulted the man before stealing his Kia Sorento.

Police spotted the stolen red Kia and grey Toyota – allegedly stolen from a Fawkner address at 8pm on Tuesday- on the Calder Freeway a short time later.

With help from the air wing, the cars were followed to Keilor, where stop sticks were deployed.

The Kia came to a stop at a service station on Keilor Park Drive, before the two occupants allegedly fled on foot into a nearby cemetery.

Police cordoned off the area while the air wing directed them to the pair.

One teenager was arrested by a member of the dog squad in the cemetery.

Members of the Critical Incident Response Team arrested the other teen a short time later.

A 16-year-old boy has been hit with a number of charges including armed robbery, theft of a motor vehicle and weapon possession, and was remanded to appear before a children’s court on Wednesday.

Police said a 17-year-old was expected to be charged on summons at a later date, while more attackers remained at large.

The Toyota and its occupants are yet to be found.

Victoria Martinez, who lives near Royal Crescent, said she and her husband had been sleeping when they were startled awake by screams as a group ran past their home.

“We just heard this young boy running, screaming … ‘No, no, no, please, no, please’,” she told the Herald Sun.

Ms Martinez said she had begun shaking and crying when she heard details of the attack and she had asked her husband to accompany her to the shops because she did not feel safe.

“We’ve got young girls and I was freaking out this morning,” she said.

“This area’s been so quiet and then … A young boy going past our house being chased by machetes and that, it’s very scary.”

Fellow resident Uyen Kim, 19, said she had been up late studying when she heard the “terrifying” confrontation.

“I started hearing a lot of screaming outside … There was a great deal of it,” she said.

“I actually have younger siblings and just knowing something like that’s happening outside my house is not something I want to hear.”

Ivan Huber, who has lived in the area for over 20 years, said he was worried about the safety on him and his sick wife.

“I don’t know what’s happened (to the suburb),” he said.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
