A person has died after a blaze broke out at a three-storey apartment complex in Melbourne’s east on Monday night

A person has died in a fire that broke out at apartment complex in Melbourne’s east.

Fire crews were called to the blaze at a three-storey apartment complex on Bishop St in Box Hill at 7.50pm on Monday.

When firefighters arrived they quickly identified that the flames were coming from the building’s second storey before they made their entry, bringing the blaze under control within 15 minutes.

One resident, who is yet to be identified, died at the scene.

All other residents of the apartment complex were safely evacuated.

Police were on Monday night investigating the cause of the blaze.

Police on Monday said the fire did not appear to be suspicious.
