anti-Semitic vandals have targeted a water facility in Kerang, spraying “revolting and despicable graffiti” on silos and buildings.

Police have issued an appeal for help to catch the offenders who broke into the facility in northern Victoria late last week.

The Nazi graffiti, including Heil Hitler symbols, was another example of “Neo-Nazism” and “cowardly acts” in Victoria, Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission said.

“Another week, another revolting and despicable graffiti which confirms that the contagion of Neo-Nazism is striking our state and is unmistakably creeping into our daily life.”

He said the “genie of white supremacism has come out of the bottle”.

“This is not just vandalism — it is an assault on all of us and our values, and I share the outrage that many Australians will feel right now as these bigots are determined to sow the seeds of fear and intimidation in our city. No wonder that many are rightly concerned as the climate for Australian Jews is growing alarmingly hostile as individuals with hatred in their hearts are walking our streets and brazenly defacing properties with the symbols of genocide.”

“Help us find the offender/offenders and stop this from recurring,” a police statement said.

The vandalism is thought to have occurred between 4pm Thursday February 18 and 5.30pm February 19.

ASIO said earlier this month extreme right-wing individuals now made up around a third of all its counter-terrorism investigations and the threat of violence from extreme right-wing groups was “serious, increasing and evolving”.

“The tragedy in Christchurch in 2019 was a stark example of this,” an ASIO spokesman told the Sunday Herald Sun.
