The mother of a baby found dead in a freezer near the Victorian and NSW border has broken her silence for the first time.

Kylie Patten’s three-month-old baby boy was found in her parents’ freezer in Corowa, New South Wales, with police arresting the mother before releasing her without charge the next day.

Police were called to Kylie’s parents’ home after concerns were raised for the infant’s welfare on January 19.

Kevin Patten, born in November last year, was found dead in the freezer, with his mother taking to social media to pay tribute to her deceased son.

“My days with Kevin will never end,” she said on Facebook.

“Mummy couldn’t stop the world but I can stop to know you all,

“Love always, I asked for you to be always near… Mum wants to see you and I still do,

“Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith. It is the price of love.”

Text messages revealed by Herald Sun detail conversations with a close friend, showing Ms Patten claiming to know who may have been involved.

“I know whom was at my place that night, I’ve already told the police who put me in handcuffs that night. No one can do anything without further evidence,” the text reads.

“I should be sneaky too and take his life.”

Forensic experts took the body for a heartbreaking post-mortem, before the coroner finally released the body two months later.

Ms Patten then laid her son to rest in the town’s cemetery during an emotional service.

Police have not made any arrests in relation to the death and the investigation remains ongoing.
