Melbourne commuters battled peak-hour travel chaos on Thursday morning with fifteen metro train lines facing major delays of up to 50 minutes.
Trains were not running through the City Loop following an incident at Melbourne Central Station.
Melbourne Central Station was evacuated and fire crews called to the station after an alarm was triggered. The incident was deemed a false alarm just before 8am.
PTV issued disruption warnings for 15 of the 16 metro train lines, telling city travellers to expect delays between 40 and 50 minutes as they worked to recover the timetable.

Commuters can still travel to Southern Cross Station and Flinders Street Station — but those trying to get to City Loop stations are being diverted to trams instead.
“Trains on all metropolitan lines are resuming service through the City Loop, following an emergency services request and evacuation at Melbourne Central Station,” the Department of Transport said in a statement.
“We ask passengers to check station platform displays and listen for announcements, and allow an extra 40 minutes for their journey as trains get back into position for the normal timetable.
“Transport Victoria thanks passengers for their patience as emergency services conducted investigations and as crews work to restore normal services.”
