Twin brothers Maximus and Domadius Missiha will have a very interesting story to share with their peers when they walk through the school gates on Thursday.

The boys spent the summer holidays relocating from Wagga Wagga in New South Wales to Melbourne, arriving just in time to get ready for their first day at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic primary school.

The five-year-olds will join 27 other students commencing prep at the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic school in Prahran next week, with principal Adrian McAlister eagerly waiting to welcome them.

“I got to know them when they came in on their orientation days. They’re such beautiful kids,” he said.

“There’s always excitement and enthusiasm (on the first day), sometimes a few tears especially from parents of first-borns because it’s such a big milestone.”

About 77,000 preps — also known as foundation students from this year — are projected to attend their first day of school across the state’s public, catholic and independent institutions this week, with government schools officially kicking off term one on Wednesday.

Maximus and Domadius — who will be starting school on Thursday — are a bundle of nerves and excitement, according to their parents Tamer Missiha and Lydia Amin, who said they were “looking forward” to the school year.

“Domadius is very excited because he likes drawing and colouring. He does a lot of good portraits and crafts,” Mr Missiha said.

“Maximus is more into sport and loves maths. You can give him any equation and he can do it straight away.”

Mr Missiha said making new friends was one concern the boys had as they were missing their old friends from Wagga Wagga.

“They said, ‘are we going to have the same friends as before’ and I said ‘it’s a good thing for you to build new friendships with different people’,” he said.

About 163 students are enrolled at Out Lady of Lourdes primary school, with these students split into eight classrooms.

“The school has grown in the last 10 years from 60 pupils to 163,” Mr McAlister said.

“We’re definitely growing as an inner-city school and we really use every inch of it.”

While Maximus and Domadius will be in separate classrooms, the boys are looking forward to playing with each other and their new friends at recess and lunch time.

“I’m excited to do crafting and cricket,” Domadius said.

His brother Maximus added: “I love having a play in the playground and I love that Dom is really close”.
