Victorian footy fans will score a win before their team takes to the field with the AFL set to freeze the price of general admission tickets this season.
The Herald Sun can reveal the AFL will keep ticket prices steady for the seventh straight year, in a boost to budgets in the midst of a cost of living crisis.
The price freeze on general admission tickets for all matches at the MCG and Marvel Stadium across the home and away season will see adult entry remain at $27.
General admission seats at Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium will remain $30.
Concession tickets at the MCG and Marvel will remain $18 and juniors aged 14 and under $5 – the same as it cost in 2019.
AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon said the league had decided against jacking prices, in a
commitment to making the game more accessible.
“On any given weekend there could be four — five matches in Victoria, and we understand the cost-of-living pressures across every household and every business,’’ he said.
“Which is why we are committed to ensuring as many people as possible can enjoy the excitement of our game first-hand.’’
Children aged four and under will continue to get in free this season.
And a GA “Family ticket’ consisting of two adults and two children, introduced across the season for the first time last year, will be frozen at $54 for all home and away matches at the MCG and Marvel Stadium.
There will be 89 home and away matches spread across the two Melbourne venues this year, 47 at the MCG and 42 at Marvel Stadium.
AFL and club members will have a 24-hour priority window to snap up tickets for MCG (Ticketek) and Marvel Stadium (Ticketmaster) matches from February 18.
Tickets will go on sale to the public from February 19.
Hawthorn fan said Cohen Frazer said it was “a relief to see ticket prices frozen for the AFL’’.
“With so many cost of living pressures at the moment it makes a huge difference to know that we won’t have to expect to pay anything additional to go see our favourite teams and players,’’ he said.
“Being from a family of five I know it will make a huge difference to my whole family as well as families alike in Australia.’’
Tickets on-sale dates will be staggered across February for different states and venues, in a bid to stop online systems crashing.
More than 7.7m fans attended a home and away match last year, making it the highest attended AFL season in history.
“We have the best fans in the world and with record breaking attendance figures last year … we’re excited to see the return of full stadiums again in 2025,’’ Mr Dillon said.
