TV broadcaster Abbey Holmes didn’t discover she was pregnant until 12 weeks in after competing on Australian Survivor left her without a period for a year.

TV broadcaster Abbey Holmes has revealed she didn’t get her period for 12 months after competing on Australian Survivor.

Holmes is expecting her first child with husband Keegan Brooksby but had no idea she was pregnant until a few months in.

Many have questioned how the Channel 7 footy commentator didn’t know.

“I have never had regular cycles ever since I was a teenager,’’ Holmes said.

“I can go 70 days, 40 days, 60 days, 80 days etc without it so I didn’t even think twice on that front. I also thought that Keegs and I were going to have a lot of trouble given how much stress I’ve put my body under over the years.

“From my sport, to SAS (Australia) … after Survivor I didn’t get my period for 12 months which was not good. So it was such a lovely surprise.”

Holmes discovered she was expecting just a few weeks after running the New York Marathon last year.

“I can only speak to my experience here and I know so many women have it very tough, especially during that first trimester so pregnancy is absolutely not linear,’’ she said.

“But I am very fortunate to have not been sick at all, hence not knowing I was pregnant at all until 12 weeks. The only thing that gave it away was that I went off coffee — and I love my coffee — so that was the only thing that made me think something was up.”

Holmes is now back on coffee and will work through the AFL season until as late as possible.
