Female pedestrian killed in hit and run in Alice Springs

Police have revealed more details, including the potential make and model of the car involved, after a woman was killed on an Alice Springs road.

WED, MAY 25, 10AM: A WOMAN died in hospital on Tuesday night after she was hit by a car on a Central Australian road.

The 25-year-old was found unconscious on Gap Rd near the intersection with Kempe St just before 10pm on Tuesday.

Police are calling for information after a silver sedan, possibly a VE Holden Commodore was seen leaving the vicinity of the incident.

Police would like to speak to the driver of the vehicle and urge anyone with information to come forward.

“The Major Crash Unit and Alice Springs CIB are investigating and we are urging anyone in the area at that time who may have seen or heard something to make contact on 131 444,” Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Schumacher said.

St John NT operations manager Craig Garraway said the woman was a pedestrian and was pronounced dead at Alice Springs Hospital.

“She was taken to hospital in a critical condition from that incident but died at hospital,” Mr Garraway said.

WED, MAY 25, 7AM: A nine-year-old boy was lucky to come off relatively unscathed after he fell 7m from a waterfall at Edith Falls.

“He has collided with another kid on the way down which has broken his fall is what I’ve been told,” Mr Garraway said.

“Both of them have got bruising and as you could imagine, a bit sore and sorry for themselves, not too serious is my understanding.

“Both were taken into Katherine Hospital for treatment but they’re both recovering fine.”

Teenage boy

MAY 20 FRI: POLICE have arrested a teenage boy after he allegedly threatened workers with an edged weapon and threw a “blunt object” at one of them in Anula on Thursday night.

Investigators say the 16-year-old then fled the scene at about 9.30pm and, a short time later, allegedly assaulted another worker in Marrara before allegedly damaging property and again fleeing the scene.

Then at about 10.40pm, the boy allegedly attempted to rob a person in a carpark and broke into a business on Bradshaw Tce to steal food.

Detectives from Strike Force Trident arrested the teen a short time later outside Royal Darwin Hospital.

He is expected to be charged with multiple counts of assault, property damage, stealing and public order offences.

“This was a particularly violent series of incidents that occurred over a short period of time with general duties and Strike Force Trident able to locate the (alleged) offender quickly, and bring him into custody,” Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said.

“We encourage anyone who witnesses violent behaviour to contact police on 131 444 or in an emergency call triple-0.”

Alcohol seized in Darwin patrols

TOP End police have seized hundreds of litres of alcohol in anti-social behaviour patrols this week.

High-visibility patrols have been conducted by foot and in vehicles around Casuarina, Karama, Malak, Moil, Parap and East Point.

116 litres of alcohol have been seized, 160 people were moved on and 9 people were taken into protective custody as a result of the patrols.

Superintendent Peter Malley said the patrols would continue to occur around busy areas to tackle the recent increase in anti-social behaviour.

“NT Police will continue to focus on licensed premises patrols around Darwin, with emphasis on disrupting secondary supply of alcohol and anti-social behaviour,” he said.

Woman assaulted in Alice Springs

CCTV footage has captured four women assault a 23-year-old woman in Alice Springs.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, a woman tried to stop an assault on a man around the lawns at the corner of Stuart Tce and Simpson St on May 14.

NT Police allege the perpetrators started to assault the woman before another bystander yelled at the group to stop which gave the victim an opportunity to run towards their car.

The group allegedly chased the woman and continued the assault.

During this time, police allege the victim’s car keys were stolen before the perpetrators fled the scene.

Detective Acting Sergeant Adam Donaldson said police are appealing to the public to help identify the women in CCTV footage.

“CCTV shows a number of people who were in the area during the assault, including a woman who came to the aid of the victim,” he said.

“Police are calling for those witnesses to make contact as they have valuable information which would assist with this investigation.”

Marine charged over Top End nightclub assault

A 21-YEAR-OLD US Marine will face court for allegedly indecently assaulting a woman at a Darwin nightclub.

A Marine Rotation Force Darwin spokesman confirmed that a marine stationed from their unit had received a notice from police to appear in court regarding an incident last month.

NT Police confirmed a Darwin woman was allegedly assaulted at a popular nightclub, the Landmark Hotel on Roystonea Ave, on April 30.

It is understood CCTV captured footage of the alleged incident.

“We are working diligently to determine the facts in this situation, and are complying with all orders, policies and agencies involved,” the MRF-D spokesman said.

“MRF-D takes allegations of misconduct seriously and we hold our Marines and Sailors to the highest standards of conduct.

“MRF-D is honoured by the warm welcome of Australia, and the people of the Northern Territory, and we look forward to building our relationship as part of the community.”

On Tuesday, NT Police issued a man with a notice to appear in court for the alleged indecent assault.

He will appear in Darwin Local Court on June 16.
