The world held its breath as the results unfolded, with a sea of red washing over the US.
Trump managed to flip five states that were won by Obama in 2012 - Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Iowa - to snatch victory.
Ohio kept its president-picking reputation alive, with the state voting for the leader in each presidential election since 1964, while a Republican candidate hadn’t won Pennsylvania since George Bush Snr in 1988.
Results are still too close to call in the swing states of Minnesota and Michigan, but those results mean little anymore.
So where exactly did the votes come from - which states voted for Trump and who was in Clinton’s camp?
