Woman killed in Bruce Highway crash north of Bowen

A 60-year-old woman has died in a crash on the Bruce Highway north of Bowen this morning. It is the third fatal crash in North Queensland in just three days.

UPDATE 3.30pm: A woman killed in a Bruce Highway crash has been identified as a North Queensland woman.

Police confirmed a 60-year-old woman from El Arish died in the van crash about 10.42am on Sunday morning.

Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

UPDATE 12pm: A woman has died in a car crash on the Bruce Highway south of Townsville.

Paramedics were called to the crash about 25km north of Bowen at 10.42am where a female driver crashed down an embankment.

Crews arrived on scene and tried to save the woman who was critically injured.

The woman died a short time later. It is the third fatal crash between Mackay and Ingham in just three days.

No-one else has been transported from the scene.

A WOMAN is believed to be trapped in a van after a crash on the Bruce Highway south of Townsville.

Multiple emergency crews including the rescue helicopter are responding to multiple reports of a serious crash about 10.42am.

A van is understood to have left the Bruce Highway and careered down an embankment 25km north of Bowen, just south of Kailli Valley Rd on Sunday morning.

The victim, a woman, is understood to still be in the vehicle and has suffered serious, life-threatening injuries.

QGAir rescue helicopter has been tasked.

Police and paramedics are on the way.
