Police investigate alleged assault on woman at Rasmussen boat ramp

A crime scene has been set up in Rasmussen after a woman was reportedly assaulted earlier this morning.

Police were called to the Loam Island boat ramp after a man found a woman crying and in distress.

Townsville Police district duty officer Senior Sergeant Scot Warrick said the woman claimed she had been assaulted.

He said it was too early in the investigation to specify the nature of the assault.

The woman was found near a vehicle parked at the boat ramp about 5.30am today.

Forensic officers are collecting evidence from the vehicle.

Senior Sgt Warrick said the woman had no “obvious” injuries but had been taken to Townsville University Hospital.

“She didn’t suffer any overt injuries, like we couldn’t see her suffering any obvious injuries but she was very very emotional she was very distressed,” he said.

“It’s too early for me to go into any specific detail of of what we’ve found here at the scene, or the avenue that the direction that the investigation will take at this point in time.”

He said there were no CCTV cameras near the boat ramp.

He is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious near the area between midnight and 6am to contact police.
