A mixed team of Charters Towers ten-year-olds has stormed a regional soccer carnival, winning the entire competition undefeated.
Proud coach Tom Loadsman said it was a massive win for the kids, who played five games back-to-back to clinch their age group with a goal in extra time at the Burdekin FC Inc Junior Carnival on Sunday (July 27).
“The games are 25 minutes but there is only four minutes between each game,” Mr Loadsman said.
“Our kids were undefeated on the day, despite playing five games in quick succession. They were buggered.”
Loadsman has been coaching the under-10s Strikehawks alongside Nick Hall, and he said they were both proud of how determined the kids were.
“Each game was challenging and difficult, and it was great to see the amount of girls out there playing because it was a good opportunity for our three girls to play against them.”
The Strikehawks are a mixed team with three girls and 13 boys, a union that came about when several under-9 kids dropped out.
The under-10s Strikehawks are part of the Goldfields United Football Club, located in Charters Towers.
“These young legends - and their sensational coaches and families - invest their hearts and souls into their training and game performance, every week of the season,” the club said in a public post.
“Watch these young legends closely, because greater things are yet to come.”
