Some of the state’s best water skiers will put on a show this weekend as they compete for thousands of dollars in prizemoney on Ross River.
Townsville Water Ski Club president Gary Pollock said dozens of competitors would battle it out in the CrocRun, the club’s biggest event of the year.
“We’ve got 70 competitors all up, over the two days,” he said. “If people come down they will see some of the best skiers in the state.
“We’ve been extremely lucky to attract the skiers we got.”
Mr Pollock said the competition, which forms part of the Northern Series Tournament encompassing rounds in Cairns, Ayr and Mackay, had drawn in competitors from the southeast corner all the way up to the far north.
COVID-19 restrictions have this year prevented international skiers entering, which they have done in the past.
The top senior skier will win $2000 in cash while juniors will vie for a $400 top prize.
Spectators can catch the action from the riverbank, with optimal viewing from the rowing club.
