A TOWNSVILLE postie has spruced up his mail trolley to spread some Christmas cheer through the community while completing his daily rounds.
Townsville University Hospital mailman Colin Paine launched his Christmas icon on December 2, transforming his mail trolley into Santa’s sleigh.
Made from cardboard, MDF wood, “a lot of duct tape” and a lick of red paint, the sleigh is also decorated with soft toys and tinsel.
Mr Paine said he designed the 90cm by 120cm sleigh himself and it took a weekend to build.
“I freehand drew the sleigh after researching a couple of pictures on Google,” he said.
“It slots perfectly over my trolley.”
The sleigh has seen an overwhelming response from patients and staff when Mr Paine delivers and picks up mail from every ward at the hospital.
Mr Paine said people’s reactions were priceless.
“I love the smiles and everyone’s eyes lighting up,” he said.
“The kids will be holding mum and dad’s hands and their eyes will just be watching the sleigh.”
Mr Paine will steer his sleigh until December 31, when he will start thinking about transforming his trolley for 2021 Australia Day celebrations.
