Bruce Highway, Townsville street closures: Flooding rain causes roads to close

The Bruce Highway has been cut and multiple streets across NQ are flooded due to widespread and heavy rainfall. Here is a list of roads we know are closed. PLUS: Changes to ferry schedules.

Townsville is being subjected to widespread flooding, with people warned to stay off the roads if they can.

However, with buses halted, many parents are being forced to pick up their children from school and daycare.

Below is a list of roads we know are closed, but keep in mind this is a rapidly evolving situation and more roads are likely to close.

- Abbott St, Oonoonba - CLOSED.

- Anne St and Ross River Rd.

- Bayswater Rd - all inbound traffic from Dalrymple stopped.

- Bayswater Rd and Iluka St.

- Bayswater Rd and Mooney St.

- Bayswater Terrace, Hermit Park.

- Bohle River Crossing at Shaw - CLOSED.

- Bowen Rd - roundabout at Fairfield Waters Dr.

- Carthew St and Thuringowa Dr.

- Charlotte St and Ross River Rd.

- Fulham Rd from Mill Dr to Angus Ave.

- Hugh St near Pimlico High School.

- Intersection of Fulham Rd and Mill Dr.

- Kokoda St towards Stuart Dr from Otto’s entrance - CLOSED.

- Luka St and Mooney St.

- O’Reilly St and Brownhill St, Mundingburra.

- Palmerston St.

- Stuart Dr from University Rd to the service station - CLOSED.

- Thuringowa Dr and Charlotte St.

- Townsend St - police directing traffic at Charters Towers Rd.

Shopping Centres & Businesses:

- Access road to BP Deeragun - flooded & service station - CLOSED.

- Albert St near Townsville Shopping Centre.

- Castletown Shopping Centre car park - CLOSED.

Airport Access:

- Ingham Rd near the airport.

- Meenan St, Garbutt - CLOSED. Use Old Common Rd instead.

Ferry services limited

SeaLink has advised that services to Magnetic Island will be recused over the coming days.

On Friday, the final service to the Island will be 6pm, with the final service from the Island to the mainland 6.35pm.

This evening’s return services departing Townsville Breakwater at 7pm, 9.30pm and 10.30pm have all been cancelled.
