AN Aussie classic crowd pleaser will add a twist to North Ward this week with the opening of a new takeaway store.
The second Townsville Pies store will open its doors on Wednesday on Eyre Street as the sister store to the flagship shop at Garbutt Central.
Manager Hope Turner has spent the last month finetuning the recipes and sourcing local ingredients.
“I am very much a home cook and it is about experimenting and using good flavours and great products and making something special for Townsville,” she said.
“The pies are great and the toppings are amazing. The store has a good atmosphere and it is right in the city near the beach so families can come grab a bite to eat and head to The Strand.”
Pie lovers will be able to choose from a range of 12 different flavours and four toppings as well as indulge in a classic spider drink.
Ms Turner said the pies were baked in the oven for 45 minutes at 200C. “We make everything from scratch,” she said.
Owners Avi Cohen and Dana Kvatinsky said opening the second location was delayed due to COVID-19.
Mr Cohen said he had been making pies for 40 years.
Ms Kvatinsky said Townsville Pies was about being authentic.
“I like good food and I consider Townsville Pies quality food and locally made and proudly Townsville,” she said.
