Queensland Health confirmed there were two newly reported cases today, with one being a Townsville City Council staff member.

A council spokesman confirmed the organisation had been advised on Tuesday that a member of its workforce had tested positive for COVID-19.

The employee had recently been overseas and had gone into self-isolation immediately upon return.

Details of Townsville’s fifth COVID-19 case have not yet been revealed.

A total of 46 new cases were confirmed today, raising Queensland’s total to 443.

Queensland Health said contract tracing is underway for the new cases and would notify communities if any alerts were required.

Most cases are from patients who have travelled overseas, or have been in direct contact with a confirmed case who had travelled overseas.

Townsville’s first case was Ann Roberts School of Dance production manager Andre Reynaud, who is in isolation in New Zealand.

Senator Susan McDonald was Townsville’s second confirmed case, and has since been cleared by Queensland Health.

A woman who had disembarked from the Ovation of the Seas cruise ship was the third case.

Queensland Health last week said there was another COVID-19 case in Townsville, but later clarified the patient was in fact in Brisbane and had not been to the city in recent times, therefore striking it off our total.
