Four besties have banded together for some wicked and ghoulish Halloween fun with four skeletons with an ever changing wardrobe in Idalia.
Nikki Beetham, Monique Menzie, Alix Aurisch and Liz Travers have called the skeletons the Term 4 Mums and are releasing their built-up school angst by creatively redressing the plastic life-size skeletons in different costumes in an ongoing and hilarious combination of different situations.
Located outside Beetham’s home in Lakeside Boulevarde, some of the ghoulish incantations have included the skeletons dressed in ball gowns and recovering from a big night out, the Village People, and ready for the gym.
Beetham said their name referred to them being brain dead by term four with an almost never-ending need to prepare their children for another extra school activity.
They’re called like affectionately, the term for mums. I think most mums would be able to relate to that term without an explanation,” she said.
“You are dead (as a school mum) in term four. There’s the school work then the teachers through in ‘Coloured Clothes Day’, there’s a disco, and sports breakups and the calendar is already busy this time of year.”
The four started decorating Beetham’s house and had just the one skeleton out the front.
“We started with one skeleton, then we got another and I said, ‘you know what, we should have four of them to suit our personalities’ and it just sort of went from there.
“We just thought it’d be funny. Then, every day, we’ve been – what are we going to do today?
“Monique came back one day and put wigs on to match each of the four of us that we based them on, and then the next day they had sunglasses, and then the next day they had a dog, which someone else can contribute.
“It was funny, so we thought we might as well keep going with it, and luckily, we’ve got a very extensive costume box.”
The costumed skeletons have become popular neighbourhood and social media attractions.
“Just about every single person has said, ‘It’s made our day when we come around the corner and see what they’re doing today’.
“The favourite one so far has been Sunday, with the hangovers when they’re in their ball gowns. They went out the night before, and then Sunday, they were still in their ball gowns, but with buckets.
“Yesterday, they were in bath towels getting refreshed for their week. Last week, we had the Village People.”
Today is the last day the skeletons will be dressed, and Beetham said they were expecting a good crowd of sightseers as Idalia was a Halloween hot spot. But she asked drivers to be vigilant.
“If you’re cruising around tomorrow night, just slow down the kids are out having fun. I just would hate to see anything go wrong because people are being silly, on the roads.”
Beetham said there was now a Halloween app available called ‘Witch Way, this Way’ which showed all the Halloween houses available in Townsville.
