It is going to be a close shave for Townsville mother of two Kimberley Norris when she loses her long locks as the ultimate sacrifice for her only son.

Ms Norris’s son Patrick Gregory was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia when he was six years old in 2018.

Two days after the diagnosis, the family moved to Brisbane for six months while Patrick endured four cycles of chemotherapy.

Patrick is thankfully in remission but for Ms Norris, watching her son battle the disease is something she will never forget.

In support of her son and other families like hers, Ms Norris is shaving her hair for the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave this month.

Ms Norris said her son wasn’t initially happy with her decision to shave her head because losing his hair “really affected him”.

“When I told my son I was going to shave my hair he got really upset but I explained I am doing this to help families like ours and help children like him,” she said.
