The projected 10,000-home Elliot Springs development near Townsville has marked an important notch as Coles acquires land right next to Bruce Highway.
The first lots of land at the $1.4bn development began selling in mid-2017 and 219 homes have been built to date. By 2056, the development is expected to house 26,000 people and have six schools.
Lendlease is steering the ‘masterplanned’ satellite community.
Lendlease Head of Queensland Communities, Ian Murray, said the Coles deal was a major milestone to offering services and a comfortable lifestyle.
“We welcome all new business but also the additional jobs they will create for both our residents and the wider Townsville region,” he said.
The community is 18 kilometres southeast of the Townsville city.
“Our vision for Elliot Springs is progressing extremely well, we’re creating a thriving and connected community,” Mr Murray said.
A McDonalds is planned for Elliot Springs and BP petrol station started trading in July 2021.
A Lendlease spokeswoman said about 500 people currently lived at Elliot Springs in 219 completed homes.
Land release stages 11 and 12, consisting of 400 sqm to 1000 sqm sections, were almost complete and due for registration in the coming months, she said.
Coles has been approached for comment.
