A MARKET upswing and increased confidence among local buyers are seeing million- dollar homes listed and sold in Townsville.

There are currently 30 Townsville properties listed on realestate.com.au offering luxurious lifestyles with price tags of $1 million and upwards.

M Property Townsville City real estate agent Tracey Stack said she was currently managing two million-dollar properties in her portfolio.

Ms Stack said six-figure homes were being scooped up by local professionals.

“That higher end of the market is driven by medical buyers who are transitioning for medical appointment and local families who are upgrading,” she said. “At that higher point, locals upgrading shows confidence in the city.”

Ms Stack believes Townsville is entering an upward cycle of the real estate market and said she had another million-dollar home ready to launch in the new year.

“We have lifted and we have gone past the bottom of the cycle last year,” she said.

Ms Stack said many families she had dealt with were looking to move closer to school catchments as well as enjoy a new level of luxury.

“Some of them want the view, some want the lifestyle and some want to be by Grammar and St Pat’s,” she said. “A lot of families transition to the Grammar North Ward campus from Annandale campus when they start secondary school.”

Although most buyers were locals, Ms Stack said there was also interstate interest.

“When southerners come to Townsville, they see the diversity of the houses and the value they get for their money is quite good,” she said.

Ms Stack said she had recently sold two luxury properties that were quickly put under contract.

“I sold a home in Stanley St (North Ward) that was on the market for six weeks for $1.53 million and I sold a house on Victoria St (North Ward) in just 15 days,” she said.

Ms Stack said many buyers were looking to live a beachside lifestyle with high-end properties in Castle Hill, North Ward, Belgian Gardens and Townsville City becoming popular.

Ms Stack said a few often discredited suburbs still provided a connection to the beach as well as opulent living.

“Pallarenda and Rowes Bay are overlooked because people just look at North Ward but they can still offer a lifestyle with all the family amenities,” she said.
