Townsville family keen to explore NQ and avoid COVID-19 hot spots

Teachers, parents and kids are rejoicing at the start of school holidays.

Teachers, parents and kids are rejoicing at the start of school holidays.

It marks the end of one of the longest terms in history, or at least it felt like it thanks to COVID-19.

With interstate travel to visit friends and family in Victoria not an option, the Clifford family have instead opted to explore parts of North Queensland.

Siobhan Clifford said she appreciated Townsville’s attractions now more than ever.

“We don’t have any family up here and we haven’t been able to visit them but even at the height of the lockdown we’ve realised how lucky we are to live in Townsville,” Mrs Clifford said.

“We’re spending a lot of time here just around the local area to make the most of it but we’re also going to go for a bit of a drive to Palm Cove now that caravan parks are open.”

A new tourism campaign, “Queensland – You’re Good to Go”, was launched recently in time for June-July school holidays.

Its main push was to promote intrastate travel and keep people inside Queensland borders in a bid to get cash recirculating in order to help revive the state’s economy.

As of Saturday, Queensland had no new confirmed COVID-19 cases and just two active cases.
