WITH stir-crazy toddlers and craving a sense of normality, Townsville parents Trent and Louisa Engel took advantage of cut back restrictions to lap up the sunshine at The Strand.
Mrs Engel said it had been hard trying to shield her children Isabelle, 4 and Luca, 2 from coronavirus with social distancing locking families out of playgrounds and other community spaces, making the relaxed conditions a welcome relief.
“We’re certainly home more than we’d normally be so it was nice to have a wander down (to The Strand) and not worry about breaking the rules,” Mrs Engel said.
Queensland’s coronavirus restrictions were eased from May 1, allowing people to enjoy recreation activities including picnics and water sports within 50 km from home. Strict social distancing measures still apply.

Mrs Engel said with winter weather creeping in there was no better time to enjoy a bite to eat along The Strand.
“We had to go and grab a coffee at Juliette’s to support local business because we all know they need it,” she said. “We need to be respectful of the restrictions but if we can spend locally every bit helps.”
