Townsville crime: Stolen car rams police vehicle in Kirwan

A stolen car driven by a teenage girl has rammed a police vehicle in the early hours of this morning.

A stolen car driven by a teenage girl has rammed a police vehicle in the early hours of this morning.

The incident occurred about 4.45am at the roundabout of Dalrymple Road and Thuringowa Dr, Kirwan.

Townsville Police district duty officer Senior Sergeant Darren Randall said the police vehicle was damaged when it was rammed by a stolen Toyota Corolla but officers luckily escaped without injury.

He said two girls were arrested at the scene, including a 13-year-old driver and a 12-year-old passenger.

Sen-Sgt Randall said another five juveniles fled the scene.

In a separate incident, fire and rescue crews were called to burning car in Kelso.

The car was found in bushland off Kelso Drive about 6.45am.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said there were no details of anyone being in the vehicle at the time of the blaze.
