Police officers, including the dog squad, are pursuing a number of suspects who tried to steal a car in an attempted robbery.

Police officers, including the dog squad, are pursuing a number of suspects who tried to steal a car in an attempted robbery.

Police were first called to Aitkenvale about 7.30pm.

Officers were pursuing the suspects on foot before calling the dog squad.

The suspects tried to steal a car but were unsuccessful.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said a 14-year-old boy was taken into custody.

The teenager is due to appear in Townsville Childrens Court next week.
