TOWNSVILLE prisoners will be treated to a Christmas lunch with all the trimmings behind bars.
Data from Queensland Corrective Services shows on average 1033 mouths are fed daily at Townsville Correctional Centre.
A Queensland Corrective Services spokesman said inmates would be provided a fresh Christmas lunch as opposed to usual pre-packaged food.
“Across all centres prisoners will receive a modest lunch on Christmas Day of chicken or ham, vegetables and salad,” he said.
“Prisoners will also receive a serve of cake or pudding.”
Inmates will have access to Christmas Day chaplaincy services.
However, because of safety reasons no Christmas decorations will be erected in the jail.
The spokesman said prisoners would continue their normal structured day on Christmas and would not receive family visits.
“There are no visits for prisoners on Christmas Day, and Townsville Correctional Centre held a family visits day on Friday 20 December,” he said.
More than 1000 Queensland Corrective Services officers will be working on Christmas Day throughout Queensland.
Townsville Correctional Centre is 12km west of the city and houses men and women in both high and low security.
